Polar OwnCal®
Counts and displays calorie expenditure.
The Polar OwnCal feature shows your energy expenditure during exercise as well as your accumulated kilocalories to date. OwnCal calculation (in Polar M-series Heart Rate Monitors) takes gender, body weight and exercise heart rate into account. OwnCals calculation (in Polar S-series Heart Rate Monitors) takes VO2max, HRmax and exercise heart rate into account.
You can set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure with the OwnCal feature, and then monitor the accumulated amount of calories expended during one week or during a single exercise session.
Faster OwnZone® (basic)
Determines personal heart rate limits for an exercise session now in just 5 minutes.
The Polar OwnZone feature determines an individual and safe light to moderate intensity exercise zone (65-85% HRmax). Polar Heart Rate Monitors use multiple methods for determining your OwnZone. The primary method is to measure your heart rate variability during the warm-up period before exercising. It guides you through an appropriate warm-up routine and automatically determines a safe and effective exercise heart rate zone - your OwnZone - while taking into account your current physical condition.
Alternatively, the Polar Heart Rate Monitor will automatically calculate OwnZone limits based on your age-predicted maximum heart rate (220 minus age).
The OwnZone corresponds to 65-85 % of the maximum heart rate. Exercise at the lower end of this intensity level can be conducted for extended periods safely and often yields the best results for weight control, while exercise at the upper end of this intensity produces the best results for improving cardiovascular fitness. When you exercise, you can also use your heart rate monitor's latest saved OwnZone limits. However, you should recalculate your OwnZone at the beginning of your workout whenever you change exercise environment and/or exercise mode or if your psychological state changes when feeling stressed or depressed, for instance.
The OwnZone Advanced feature consists of two training areas: OwnZone High and OwnZone Low, providing greater variations in exercising, as the OwnZone Basic area can be rather wide for more focused exercising.
The OwnZone Low corresponds to light-to-moderate/moderate intensity level or about 65-78% of your maximum heart rate. The OwnZone Low is ideal for warming up, for weight loss-related exercise for sedentary and less fit individuals and for those recovering from sickness or intensive training.
OwnZone High corresponds to moderate intensity or, at most, to heavy intensity exercise typically targeting fitness benefits and corresponds to about 78-87% of your maximum heart rate. Switching to this intensity during exercise is useful, for instance, when you want to add a higher intensity section to your exercise.
OwnZone Weight (in Polar WM42/WM41) corresponds to 60-75% of your maximum heart rate.
Polar M31/M32 and Polar WM42/WM41 Heart Rate Monitor models are equipped with Faster OwnZone (basic) feature that determines personal heart rate limits for an exercise session in 5 minutes. In Polar M71ti the Polar OwnZone (basic) feature determines your personal heart rate limits in 10 minutes.
